The Snow Moon Pendant

Many human cultures gave names to each full moon throughout the year.
Native American tribes named all the moons phases and cycles to keep track of hunting and the seasons with each full moon name giving a name to each month.  January is the Wolf Moon, February the Snow Moon or Hunger Moon due to deep snow and difficult hunting conditions.
The luminosity of this hammer textured pewter speaks to me of that frosty, distant moon with glacial ice dropping off the sides. Formed in warm pitch, the soft texture in the bowl was achieved with a gnarly old hammer my husband found for me on one of his treasure hunts!  There is a twisted sterling bale to hang it from a black leather thong.  Pendant is about 2.5 to 3 inches across.  Available at Koru Art Annex in Kingston ON.
